Dear God

As February began, I was reminded that this was month would be home to: Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, SuperBowl Sunday, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, President’s Day (Abraham Lincoln and George Washington’s Birthdays), and National Wear Red Day. Oh, wait how could I forget, New York Fashion Week.

So as I sat down this morning beginning to earnestly tackle my ‘To Do List’ I reminisced upon the first 3 days of February. I was able to watch the NAACP’s Image Awards. It was such an amazing show, and a prelude to the many award shows that would take place this year. But the most memorable of the night was the telecast concluding with Jamie Foxx accepting his award and singing “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” It meant a lot especially since he was receiving the award for his role in Django. There were mixed views from both sides of the color spectrum, but it was also his own personal testimony.

On Saturday, Lifetime premiered Betty and Coretta. It was a documentary from their perspective and their story after they lost their husbands. It was a great story on how they remained strong through it all, persevered, built a friendship, and became the hero in their family.

As we prepped for Superbowl Sunday, the Stellar Awards presented a phenomenal award show. It showcased so many old souls, Sunday’s Best winners, and a few newbies.

As the Superbowl commenced it was unclear if there were more people excited to see who would triumph between the 49ers and the Ravens or Beyoncé’s performance. As the Ravens led into Halftime, the suspense was finally over and Beyoncé gave an amazing performance and was accompanied by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Thereafter the lights no longer worked. Despite the slow restart the Ravens were able to gain the title of Superbowl champions.

It was only fitting that the next day was the 100th birthday of Rosa Parks. Someone who had made a simple decision, and although it was deemed unwise, she claimed victory. Also, today her new stamp was unveiled. 2013 is panning out to be quite an amazing, inspiring, and informative year. Let’s see what the rest of February has to bring.
