Dear Hair Companies
So, it’s been about 15-20 years that I have tried to take care of my own hair and try different styles. While I was growing up there were no natural hair products so my hair was relaxed. After I graduated High School I journeyed to understanding my natural texture, and became pretty good at taking care of it.
As the years have passed many women, especially of color, have embraced their natural hair texture. Though there has been an increase in products, the products have also changed over the years. While I started out using Crème of Nature and Just for Me, I then fell in love with Shea Moisture. I noticed the changes it had in maintain my curls, so I was at lost at what to use next.
I attend a lot of events, so I always get samples to try, but I couldn’t find anything that my hair fell in love with. I finally found the perfect Pro-V Co wash by Pantene, and now it is discontinued. The frustration to have healthy hair that “behaves” is only heightened by the transition by companies. Why are you forsaking me?
This week Shea Moisture received backlash for their lasted commercial. Now, I understood why it no longer tamed my locks. It was no longer made for me. What am I to do?
