Girl Around Town...Philanthropy Edition

Today is National Philanthropy Day, as well as Woman Crush Wednesday. So, today I will feature one of my favorite female philanthropist. I do not remember the first time that I saw Liya Kebede, but immediately I fell in love with her. She is beautiful, but what I loved was her heart towards service and being a vessel for change. As the first woman of color to be a spokesperson for Estee Lauder, she has been an inspiration and a trailblazer. She also founded the Liya Kebede Foundation (LKF), which coincided with her appointment as a Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal & Child Health for the World Health Organization. Through LKF, Kebede has emerged as a significant supporter and advocate for safe motherhood initiatives in Africa. Kebede also moves philanthropy through the Kebede Family Foundation, a low-profile vehicle that she steers with her husband, Kassy, a hedge funder.

What is there not to love about her? She’s beautiful inside and out, and she is working to make sure that the work is safer for women in Africa and beyond.
